As We Knew It .:End:.
It had been three hours after saying good-bye to Jimmy, and Matt was more bored than he could ever imagine.
He hated Mondays, but this one was the worst. It was summer break, and he didn't have Jimmy here to waste hours playing video games with or watching movies. Or...Make love.
Allison and Gary cleaned up the kitchen after dinner, and Matt slumped to the couch and tried to pass the time quickly by flipping through the channels.
"Matt, honey, you want to play a board game?" Allison asked, hoping to get him out of this boredom.
"Nah, I'm not really up to it, sorry, Allison," he said, looking over his shoulder with an apologetic smile. "Wh
A blazing light raged in Matt's face suddenly the next morning as Jimmy turned his book light on.
Matt groaned very audibly as he rolled over.
"What the fuck is that light?" he muttered, hiding his face in his pillow.
Slinking down, Jimmy glanced at his step brother. His book was open, and the book light illuminated the words of John Green's "The Fault in Our Stars."
"A-are you reading? What time in the morning is it?" Matt sat up, his short hair sticking in all directions, frowning out the window seeing the sky not even lit by the sun.
"It's," Jimmy said, pausing as he checked his phone, "Five thirty." He tucked his head into his book.
"
"Hey, Jimmy," Matt whispered, hesitant to interrupt the silence.
Thinking he was hurting the scar, Jimmy took his hand away and locked gazes with Matt.
"Mhm?"
"I like when you touch my scar," Matt soothed softly. "And...I wanted to tell you that I love you." His eyes twinkled slightly as tears welled up in his eyes. "Very much."
"Mattie, I love you, too," Jimmy murmured, his voice deep and soothing. He brought his hand back up and tenderly traced his thumb over the scar.
Matt closed his eyes, smiling at Jimmy's touch, croaking, "I'm so glad you gave me a chance...To be with you."
Jimmy chuckled, his arm snaking around Matt's middle to hold
Jimmy reclined in the living room, wondering what his summer break will be like, and wondering if he'll get to see his dad soon.
The TV commercial that flashed on the screen was about some new book that was out, and Jimmy seemed enthralled with it.
"Jimmy," Allison kissed her son's head. "Take out the trash, it's getting full."
Jimmy stood, but he stayed where he was, watching the screen with
all his attention for a few more minutes.
The book was by one of his favorite authors, John Green, and he listened to the short synopsis on the Award Winning novel--
"Jimmy, trash." Allison called.
Jimmy flinched and hurried into the kitchen, and he
"Jimmy..."
Suddenly, Jimmy confessed, "I have ADHD. Matt, I'm a hyper, annoying, distracted idiot."
His blue eyes pierced Matt's face, unable to stop himself from talking, "Mom's the only person who doesn't outwardly say I'm annoying. But I know she thinks it. Especially when I get distracted."
Jimmy snatched his pad of paper off his small table, flipping the pages open to a clean page before he kicked his feet against his mattress to scoot himself up to his pillows.
"How is ADHD annoying? I don't understand," Matt said, sitting beside him, watching him begin to scribble a list. "My uncle has it," Matt continued. "I've never found it annoyin
"I wanted to sit out here with you." Matt fumbled around for his pack of cigarettes. "Want one?"
Jimmy stared at the pack that was being offered to him.
"No, I'm trying to quit," Jimmy turned away, hating himself immensely when his voice cracked and he snorted as tears coated his cheeks.
"Wow, that's great. I hope I can quit, too...someday." He laughed to try and lighten up the mood, trying to get Jimmy's mind off his worries.
Jimmy sighed and wiped at his face, staring down the street, counting trash cans that were lit up by the street lights.
"I'm sorry if us moving in is upsetting to you." Matt hesitated, scooting a little closer.
"I do
